Welcome to the The Akron AIDS Collaborative (AAC) Website!
The AAC is the administrative arm of the Ujima Empowerment House, located in Akron, Ohio. AAC has been in existence for twelve years, with the Ujima House in 2005.
We are the only HIV/AIDS community-based program in Northeast Ohio serving predominately African Americans and other minorities. Through Brother Circle meetings males can increase their knowledge and skills, discuss beliefs and facilitate attitude changes among black gays, bisexual, and many heterosexuals in an atmosphere of safety, acceptance and social support. We aim to help our participants and the greater community understand the dual identity issues of black gays and the factors that influence our community which can lead to negative feelings and to risky behaviors. In order to help meet our goals, the project uses a group-level behavioral intervention recommended by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).
