You've found First Grace United Church of Christ in Akron Ohio.  Welcome to our website!  We thought it might be helpful to let you know a little about First Grace, who we are, how we started and where we’re going.

 

In 1993 two churches, First Church and Grace Church, reunited as one congregation and became First Grace United Church of Christ (UCC).  Since that reunion sixteen years ago, First Grace UCC has evolved as a center of worship, faith and outreach in the W. Akron community.

 

We are busy church in a busy part of Akron. We are a church of passion and action. We are a church connected to God’s grace, connected to dynamic faith, and connected to engaging community works.

 

First Grace provides many community programs for children and youth, families and individuals who are in need.  In addition to its religious programs, First Grace UCC has diligently worked to create sustainable community programs that address the issues of hunger, education, teen employment, homelessness and community social justice.  Through our many programs, we have been successful at providing children, youth, families and adults with comprehensive programs that will meet and address their needs.  We also offer our facilities as host to several outside organizations that encompass the same spirit of community and service as First Grace.

 

At First Grace we feed the hungry… we serve our neighbors as Christ served his… we are multi-cultural and multi-generational as reflected in our communities... we are open and affirming of LGBT persons as we feel is right and God-like… we are inclusive to the diversity and economics of the community… we offer a full range of educational and child care possibilities for infants, children and teens… we provide meeting spaces for persons in recovery, persons casting their civic rights, and persons looking to gather in Christ… and we worship God with leadership that is both faith-filled and faithful.

 

We invite you to join us for worship and breakfast, to one of our many ministries including community meals, faith gatherings, volunteer opportunities, or children’s and youth educational programming. 

 

If nothing else we invite you to just come and experience First Grace in any capacity that inspires or interests you. One of the most important functions of being a faithful member of First Grace is being a spokesperson for our Still Speaking God, being an agent for what God is creating even today, and being a witness to the extravagant welcome we have to offer to you and this community.  However, one of the most important functions of just visiting is coming with an open mind and an open heart as you will experience the extravagant welcome and our out pouring of faith.
